From Auschwitz to Ambleside

A new 28 page booklet telling the unique story of 300 child Holocaust Survivors who arrived in the UK in August 1945.  They stayed on Calgarth Estate which was built for the workers at the nearby Sunderland Flying Boat Factory.  Calgarth Estate was sited at Troutbeck Bridge near Windermere in the Lake District.

The story begins with the flight of Waterbird in 1911 and the training of pilots before World War 1.  A pilot who was trained then became the chief test pilot for the Sunderland Flying Boat…..and so the story begins.  It continues with details about concentration camps, the estate, the children and what happened afterwards.
